The GEO Group provides comprehensive, evidence-based rehabilitation services in a correctional setting statewide. The RN Chronic Care role initiates and delivers nursing care while ensuring security requirements are met for detainees, with emphasis on assessment, care planning and physician collaboration.

Ideal candidates hold an RN license, have experience in mental health care, and can work independently within a secure facility.

Qualifications

• Associate or bachelor’s degree from an approved program; graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
• Must have current, unrestricted RN license in the state the facility is located.
• Must have previous experience in the management and treatment of mental health patients.
• Two years of direct work experience preferred.
• Competence in crisis intervention, medical emergencies, physical assessment, medical and psychiatric nursing care.
• Ability to work without direct supervision and provide follow through treatment.
• Ability to work with computers and necessary software typically used by the department.

Responsibilities

• The Registered Nurse Chronic Care performs a complete physical assessment and medical history on each detainee entering the correctional system; medical problems are referred to the physician for extended evaluation.
• Assists physician with sick call by screening patients and minor surgical procedures; treats detainees with problems within professional capabilities and refers other medical problems to the appropriate physician.
