Job summary

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks a Chiller Mechanic to join the Chilled Water Production team. You will maintain air-cooled and water-cooled chillers, conducting preventive and predictive maintenance and troubleshooting control and mechanical issues to ensure reliable operation.

You will inspect, teardown, and repair chillers, cooling towers, pumps, motors, and air compressors, contributing to efficient chilled water production.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Requires certification(s).
• Working knowledge of large pumps relevant to chilled water systems.
• Working knowledge of large air compressors or electric actuated valves.
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair auxiliary equipment used in district cooling systems.
• Electrical knowledge/skills for troubleshooting and safety.

Responsibilities

• Maintain air-cooled and water-cooled chillers with preventive and predictive maintenance.
• Troubleshoot control and mechanical problems and perform repairs/upgrades to maintain reliability.
• Inspect and teardowns of chillers as needed.
• Perform maintenance on cooling towers, pumps, motors, and ancillary equipment to support chilled water production.
