Job summary

The Chiller Technician role at the University of Wisconsin–Madison sits within the Division of Facilities Planning & Management, Physical Plant. You will maintain and repair eight on-site chillers at Charter Street and Walnut Street plants, supporting HVACR systems and coordinating with vendors to ensure reliable operations for campus facilities and nearby institutions.

Ongoing, 100% FTE with shift 6:00 AM–2:30 PM, Monday–Friday, plus occasional nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• Minimum five (5) years working on industrial chillers.
• EPA Universal Certification (A 608 Type III or higher, or equivalent).
• Valid driver’s license per UW Risk Management Standards.

Responsibilities

• Cleans work area after projects.
• Gathers materials and prepares work area and maintains equipment.
• Interprets blueprints/drawings to verify specs and calculate materials/equipment.
• Discusses project plan with customer.
• Installs, troubleshoots, and services HVACR systems and equipment.
• Reviews finished projects with client/customer.
• Maintains records/reports of work status and completion.
• Collaborates with contractors as needed.
• Performs skilled steamfitter work per trade standards and codes.
