Job summary

The City of High Point’s Public Library seeks an enthusiastic para-professional to support the Children’s Services Division. You will plan and implement programs, engage families, and connect with teachers and librarians to bring books and information to the community.

You’ll lead story times, crafts, and reading activities, while maintaining records and promoting literacy. This role requires strong communication, organization, and a passion for serving the public.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; liberal arts preferred.
• Extensive experience with computers, Microsoft Office, and graphic design (Canva or Photoshop preferred).
• Must upload a Cover Letter and Resume with Application.
• Avid reader familiar with popular writers and genres; able to discuss books and movies with customers.
• Comfortable speaking in front of people and preparing presentations for curricula or lessons.
• Capable of leading programs in person or via virtual programming.
• Learn and teach electronic library resources; use computerized circulation system.
• Good listening skills; follow written and oral instructions.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates a positive attitude and supports library goals and objectives.
• Maintains current knowledge of procedures, processes, policies, and operations.
• Provides outstanding customer service per library policy and assists in reference work.
• Assists in collection maintenance, shelving, and straightening materials.
• Represents the library at community events and coordinates programs and tours.
• Plans and conducts programs including story times, crafts, and reading events.
• Creates displays promoting programs and literacy.
• Collaborates with other divisions to achieve the Library’s mission.
