Job summary

The Parker Memorial Library seeks a Library Assistant to support the Children’s Room in Dracut. Under the supervision of the Children’s Librarian, you will help families and young patrons find appropriate reading materials and participate in planning and hosting programs.

Responsibilities include assisting with computer use, guiding patrons to resources, processing material requests, supervising computer time, and monitoring behavior to ensure safety and enjoyment for children and caregivers.

Qualifications

• Minimum of an Associates’ Degree; two years of library experience or customer service experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Previous experience with children in library, school, or similar environment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist children, parents, and teachers in finding suitable reading material for the child's age, abilities, and tastes.
• Plan, conduct, and assist with programming for children, including story times, crafts programs, and summer activities.
• Assist children through grade 6 and parents in finding both print and electronic information.
• Assist children and parents in computer usage.
• Process requests for patrons for materials not available in Dracut.
• Supervise computer use by children.
• Monitor behavior of children to ensure safety and rights of patrons in the Children's Room.
