Job summary

Area-Substance-Abuse-Council in Cedar Rapids, IA is seeking a childcare staff member to monitor children in a daycare setting and assist in developing and implementing a developmental curriculum for assigned groups of children.

The role involves teamwork with the teaching staff, maintaining health and safety standards, assisting with meals, keeping records, attending meetings, and transporting clients when required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • AA in Early Childhood Education or related field, CDA certificate, or equivalent experience.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR).

Responsibilities

  • Monitor children in a daycare setting and assist in implementing a developmental curriculum.
  • Assist in maintaining health and safety standards for children.
  • Provide for the physical care of children (diapering, toileting, feeding, comforting).
  • Assist in snacks/meals preparation.
  • Maintain an orderly environment and assist in records and reports.
  • Attend staff and parent meetings and events.
  • Safely operate a vehicle for job-related travel when needed.

As a member of our childcare staff, you will be responsible for monitoring children in a daycare setting, as well as assist in the planning and implementation of a developmental curriculum for your assigned group of children.

Key duties:
  • Work as part of the teaching team to develop and conduct developmentally appropriate activities for a group of children. This includes setting up and putting away equipment and materials both inside and outside of the facilities.
  • Assist in the incorporation of good health and safety standards for the children.
  • Assist children in learning self-help skills. Provide for the physical care of the children, including but not limited to changing, diapering, toileting, feeding, and comforting as needed.
  • Assist in preparation of snacks and meals as needed.
  • Help maintain an orderly environment.
  • Inform the supervisor when materials and nutrition supplies need to be ordered.
  • Attend and participate in staff and parent meetings and events.
  • Assist in the maintenance of records and reports.
  • Assist the children if an emergency occurs.
  • Acquire DHS-required development training hours.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Safely operate a vehicle for job-related travel, such as transporting clients, attending off-site meetings, and visiting community partners or service locations.
Requirements

Qualified candidates will have a minimum of a High School Diploma, or equivalent. An AA Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field, Child Development Associate (CDA) Certificate, or equivalent experience working in a License Childcare Center is preferred. Additionally, the ability to maintain a valid "driver's" license and an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR) is required.
