YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago is seeking a Childcare Attendant to care for children from 6 weeks to 12 years in a safe, engaging environment. You will interact with parents, supervise children, and uphold YMCA standards and values.

Responsibilities include planning activities, supervising the room, greeting guests, managing sign-ins, and maintaining proper child-to-adult ratios. CPR/First Aid is preferred and flexibility for weekends/holidays is required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Prior experience working with children in a childcare or educational setting.
  • Experience in planning and implementing age-appropriate activities for children.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, weekends, and holidays, as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement daily drop-in childcare programs (babysitting) and enrichment activities.
  • Maintain awareness and supervision of the needs of the room and ensure the health and physical safety of children at all times.
  • Greet community members and guests and make them feel welcome and engaged.
  • Manage sign-in and sign-out procedures.
  • Foster a safe play environment.
  • Organize and set up materials and supplies.
  • Ensure proper ratios are maintained.
  • Provide a healthy environment by sanitizing toys and play equipment.
  • Support facility operations by partnering with local Community Hub leadership to ensure childcare spaces are clean at all times.

Scope Of Responsibilities

Minimum And Preferred Qualifications
  • At least 16 years of age
  • Ability to work flexible hours, weekends, and/or holidays, as needed
  • Top-notch verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • [Bilingual, English/Spanish highly preferred]
Qualifications
Required Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Required Experience
  • Prior experience working with children in a childcare or educational setting.
  • Experience in planning and implementing age-appropriate activities for children.
  • Experience in maintaining a safe and nurturing environment for children.
Required Skills And Abilities
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with children, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to engage and motivate children through creative and educational activities.
  • Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate practices.
  • Ability to maintain a positive and patient demeanor in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • CPR and First Aid certification is preferred.
