Job summary

YMCA Hawthorn Woods seeks a lively Childcare Attendant to supervise children ages 6 weeks to 12 years, create a safe, engaging environment, and interact with parents to ensure peace of mind.

You will implement daily activities, manage sign-in/out, maintain healthy play spaces, sanitize toys, and collaborate with Community Hub leadership to keep spaces clean and welcoming. This role requires flexibility across weekends/holidays and strong communication, with bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 16 years or older.
• Ability to work flexible hours including weekends/holidays.
• Bilingual English/Spanish highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement daily drop-in childcare programs and enrichment activities.
• Maintain awareness and supervision of the room and ensure health and safety of children at all times.
• Greet community members and guests and make them feel welcome and engaged.
• Manage sign-in and sign-out procedures.
• Foster a safe play environment; organize and set up materials and supplies.
• Ensure proper ratios are maintained; sanitize toys and play equipment.

Job Summary and Key Accountabilities:Childcare Attendants are responsible for the wellbeing of children ages 6 weeks to 12 years within their care and maintaining a safe and fun environment. You will actively interact and engage with parents, monitor children throughout their care and supervision, and adhere to the standards and values of the YMCA.Scope of ResponsibilitiesPlan and implement daily drop-in childcare programs (babysitting) and enrichment activitiesMaintain awareness and supervision of the needs of the room and ensure the health and physical safety of children at all timesGreet community members and guests and make them feel welcome and engagedManage sign-in and sign-out proceduresFoster a safe play environmentOrganize and set up materials and suppliesEnsure proper ratios are maintainedProvide a healthy environment by sanitizing toys and play equipmentSupport facility operations by partnering with local Community Hub leadership to ensure childcare spaces are clean at all timesChild Abuse PreventionSupports the YMCA's commitment to child abuse prevention by:Reporting any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests to your supervisorFollowing all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of childrenReporting any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisorCompleting all child abuse prevention training as requiredCommitment to InclusionSupports the YMCA's commitment to inclusion of all members as required by Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
