Job summary

YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago is seeking a Childcare Attendant to support families in Palatine, IL. You will ensure the wellbeing of children ages 6 weeks to 12 years, maintain a safe, engaging environment, and interact with parents to foster trust and retention.

Responsibilities include supervising activities, managing sign-in/out, maintaining proper ratios, sanitizing toys, and coordinating with Community Hub leadership to keep spaces clean and welcoming.

Qualifications

  • At least 16 years of age.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, weekends, and/or holidays, as needed.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement daily drop-in childcare programs (babysitting) and enrichment activities
  • Maintain awareness and supervision of the needs of the room and ensure the health and physical safety of children at all times
  • Greet community members and guests and make them feel welcome and engaged
  • Manage sign-in and sign-out procedures
  • Foster a safe play environment
  • Organize and set up materials and supplies
  • Ensure proper ratios are maintained
  • Provide a healthy environment by sanitizing toys and play equipment
  • Support facility operations by partnering with local Community Hub leadership to ensure childcare spaces are clean at all times

Scope Of Responsibilities

Child Abuse Prevention
Supports The YMCA's Commitment To Child Abuse Prevention By
  • Reporting any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests to your supervisor
  • Following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children
  • Reporting any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor
  • Completing all child abuse prevention training as required
