Childcare Activity Leader - After School Teacher

Part-Time/Non-Exempt

$12.00-14.00/Hour

Position Summary:

Assists in the planning, development, and implementation of all classroom activities. The Childcare Activity Leader is responsible for ensuring the children’s social, physical, spiritual, and mental development in the program, before and after school, while prioritizing the safety and wellbeing of the children.

Essential Functions:

• Plans, develops, and implements weekly lesson plans that fit the children’s needs, interests, and developmental levels in the classroom.
• Works cooperatively with Lead Teacher, Site Administrator, other staff, and partners.
• Documents attendance, absenteeism, transitions, minor discipline, and incidents for each child in the classroom.
• Manages the appearance and organization of their classroom/designated program/outside areas, maintaining the quality of supplies, materials, and equipment.
• Reports any broken or unsafe toys and disinfects toys and equipment regularly according to state regulations.
• Conducts the program in accordance with Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) guidelines.
• Effectively communicates verbal and written reports to parents and conducts parent/teacher conferences as per Center guidelines.
• Possesses working knowledge of child abuse and neglect laws and follows proper reporting procedures.
• Handles discipline promptly and according to the stated discipline policy, documenting and reporting any special needs or problems of individual children, staff, or parents.
• Monitors and assists in maintaining the cleanliness of the child care and program area.
• Maintains appropriate adult/child ratios.
• Fills in other classrooms when needed.
• Attends parent events/family programs.
• Attends scheduled staff meetings, staff activities, and ongoing training.
• Attends in-service training events as required by ODJFS regulations, continuing professional development through community involvement, reading, and/or further education.
• Remains familiar with National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) or the National After School Association (NAA) accreditation requirements, completing required documentation per Center requirements.
• Conducts all required screenings and assessments within the required timeframe.
• Maintains appropriate records for the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
• Communicates any concerns, needed repairs, or incidents that may need follow-up to the direct supervisor.
• Possesses the ability and appropriate safe driving record to drive a vehicle, safely transporting up to 14 children.
• Required to work summer months/Day Camp.
• Protects confidential information regarding program participants, families, and staff members.

Qualifications:

• Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or GED. An Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education from an accredited college or university is preferred.
• Six months of experience working in the early childhood field is strongly preferred.
