Childcare Activity Leader - After School Teacher

$12.92-$15.50/Hour

Position Summary:

Assists in planning, developing, and implementing classroom activities. The Childcare Activity Leader is responsible for supporting children's social, physical, spiritual, and mental development in the program, before and after school, while prioritizing safety and wellbeing.

Essential Functions:

  1. Develops and implements weekly lesson plans tailored to children's needs and developmental levels.
  2. Collaborates effectively with Lead Teachers, Site Administrators, staff, and partners.
  3. Documents attendance, absences, transitions, minor discipline issues, and incidents.
  4. Maintains classroom appearance and management, ensuring supplies and materials are organized and in good condition.
  5. Reports unsafe toys and disinfects toys and equipment regularly per state regulations.
  6. Follows Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) guidelines in program operations.
  7. Communicates effectively with parents through verbal and written reports; conducts parent/teacher conferences.
  8. Follows child abuse and neglect laws, with proper reporting procedures.
  9. Handles discipline promptly per policy; reports any special needs or issues to the supervisor.
  10. Maintains cleanliness of the childcare and program areas.
  11. Ensures appropriate adult/child ratios are maintained.
  12. Assists in other classrooms as needed.
  13. Participates in parent events and family programs.
  14. Attends staff meetings, activities, and trainings, including required in-service events per ODJFS regulations.
  15. Stays informed about NAEYC or NAA accreditation standards and completes necessary documentation.
  16. Conducts required screenings and assessments timely.
  17. Maintains records for the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
  18. Reports concerns, repairs, or incidents to the supervisor.
  19. Possesses a safe driving record and the ability to transport up to 14 children.
  20. Works during summer months and Day Camp as required.
  21. Protects confidential information about participants, families, and staff.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or GED; an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education is preferred.
  • Six months of experience in early childhood is strongly preferred.
