Job summary

Grand Traverse Bay YMCA is seeking a part-time Child Watch Lead to supervise staff, ensure safety, and foster positive experiences for children and their families. The role includes collaboration with the Membership Services team and alignment with YMCA values.

Responsibilities include supervising operations, training staff, and communicating with parents while supporting youth programming as needed. Flexible evenings/weekends and a $16–$18/hour pay range accompany the position.

Qualifications

• At least 18 years old with childcare experience and leadership preferred.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups from all backgrounds.
• CPR and AED certification current; complete required trainings.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations of the Child Watch program and staff.
• Ensure a safe, engaging environment and high care standards.
• Supervise staff, interview/hire/train and retain team members.
• Deliver engaging youth programming alongside directors/managers.
• Communicate with parents about achievements and concerns promptly.
• Maintain clean, safe program spaces and document incidents.
