Job summary

The YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas is seeking a Child Watch Staff member to provide a safe, caring environment for Child Watch participants under supervision, aligned with YMCA policies and mission.

You will assist with daily activities, supervise children while parents attend classes, and maintain positive communication with parents. The role emphasizes safety, professional conduct, and adherence to emergency protocols on-site at YMCA facilities.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 16.
• Experience with children in supervised settings preferred.
• CPR/First Aid/AED/O2 certification required within 60 days of hire.
• Complete trainings: NEO, Bloodborne Pathogens, CAP, Sexual Harassment annually.
• Criminal background and Child Protective Services checks.

Responsibilities

• Support YMCA mission and goals.
• Promote a professional work environment and model core values.
• Lead in youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
• Assist with preparing daily activities for Child Watch.
• Supervise children/teens during parents' classes or programs.
• Maintain positive communication with parents.
• Represent YMCA in behavior and relationships.
• Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
• Promote YMCA fundraising efforts including Annual Support and United Way.
• Lead in emergencies and report accidents per plan.
• Ensure safety and follow the Emergency Operations Plan.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
• Wear staff uniform or professional attire when appropriate.
• Follow department standards and other related duties as needed.
