Job summary

The YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas is seeking a Child Watch Staff member to provide a safe, caring environment for children while families participate in YMCA programs. You will support the mission by modeling Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility, and you will collaborate with staff to engage members and guests.

This role requires CPR/First Aid within 60 days of hire and completion of required trainings.

Qualifications

• Ability to plan, lead and participate in activities.
• Ability to communicate with assigned ages and skill levels and provide necessary instruction to participants.
• Ability to observe participants, enforce safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply behavior-management techniques.
• Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to hazards in the activity environment.
• Physical ability to respond to emergencies and provide first aid.

Responsibilities

• Support the mission, vision and goals of the YMCA.
• Promote a professional work environment through caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
• Lead to strengthen community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
• Assist with preparing daily activities for Child Watch participants.
• Supervise children/teens while parents attend classes or programs.
• Maintain positive communication with parents.
• Act as YMCA ambassador in behavior and relationships.
• Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
• Promote and participate in YMCA fundraising efforts.
• Act as a leader in emergency situations and report accidents according to the Emergency Communication Action Plan.
• Ensure safety and adherence to the Emergency Operations Plan (EOP).
• Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
• Wear staff uniform and name tag or professional attire.
• Follow department standards.
• Carry out other related duties to ensure an excellent member experience.
