Job summary

Oklahoma Department Of Human Services in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, is seeking a Child Support Specialist I/II to initiate and process child support enforcement cases. This full-time role offers state benefits with two salary levels: Level I around $36,812 and Level II around $39,572 plus benefits.

The position requires either a bachelor’s degree or equivalent education/experience, with various permissible substitutions, and occasional job-related travel. A valid driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required for Specialist I.
  • One year of professional child support enforcement, accounting, legal, or social work may substitute for education.
  • Associate’s degree in Legal Assistance or paralegal education may qualify.
  • Associate’s degree in Public Service – Legal Case Management may qualify.
  • ABA-approved paralegal education program may qualify.
  • Bachelor’s degree plus one year of relevant experience for Specialist II; or master’s/JD.
  • Two years of relevant experience with an associate’s degree alternatives.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience allowed.

Responsibilities

  • Review, analyze, and evaluate child support cases for establishment or enforcement actions.
  • Prepare records of payment, legal pleadings, and correspondence.
  • Update computer records, perform locate activities, document case activity.
  • Negotiate settlements and agreed orders.
  • Mediate between parties and resolve issues relating to child support payments.
  • Monitor and manage case log.
  • Communicate effectively by phone and in person.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education

Bachelor's degree
Equivalent combination of education and experience
Associate’s degree in Legal Assistance or paralegal education
Associate’s degree in Public Service – Legal Case Management
ABA-approved paralegal education program
Master’s degree
Juris Doctor degree
Associate’s degree in Legal Assistance or paralegal education and two years of professional experience
Associate’s degree in Public Service – Legal Case Management and two years of professional experience
ABA approved paralegal education program and two years of professional experience
Equivalent combination of education and experience substituting one additional year of qualifying experience for bachelor’s degree
