Job summary

Steele County is seeking a Child Support Officer to work under the Eligibility & Enrollment Supervisor, handling paralegal and non-legal tasks for establishing and enforcing child support orders. The role involves interviewing supporting mothers and alleged fathers, locating absent parents, and managing court orders for child support and medical support within an expedited process or through the judicial system.

You will collect payments, maintain case records, and educate clients on procedures.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years relatable human service experience in child support, enforcement, public assistance or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Ability to pass a background check.

Responsibilities

• Prioritizes and performs caseload and case management duties in accordance with deadlines, policies and procedures.
• Researches and prepares legal documents for review by County Attorney.
• Testifies in court and at expedited hearings regarding case facts.
• Educates clients on child support procedures and policies.
• Locates absent parents through investigations and agency cooperation; investigates addresses using state databases.
• Collects child support payments and arrearages through enforcement methods provided by law.
