Job summary

Steele County Human Services seeks a Child Support Officer to provide paralegal and non-legal support for establishing and enforcing child support orders. Under the Eligibility & Enrollment Supervisor, you will handle interviews, locate absent parents, and manage case records.

Responsibilities include preparing pleadings, serving documents, testifying in court, and collaborating with attorneys, judges, and staff.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalence.
• Minimum of 3 years relatable human service experience in child support, enforcement, public assistance or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to pass a background check.
• Basic knowledge of laws, rules, and guidelines pertaining to child support programs, enforcement and functions.
• Knowledge of debt collection processes and laws.
• Data privacy laws, statutes, requirements and department policies and procedures.
• Basic understanding of court procedures, legal terminology, legal processes, basic rules of evidence, and legal forms related to child support including the expedited process forum.
• Knowledge of community resources and human behavior.
• Fundamentals of computer operation and computer applications and programs utilized by the department.

Responsibilities

• Prioritize caseloads and meet deadlines per policies.
• Interview parties to assemble case information and documents.
• Update and monitor case information in management systems.
• Prepare and file pleadings and court documents.
• Serve legal documents and testify in court as needed.
• Collaborate with attorneys, judges, and staff to establish orders.
• Perform case management with attention to detail.
