Job summary

The Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) in Delaware is seeking a dedicated Child Support Specialist I to collaborate with out-of-state agencies to establish and enforce child support orders. You will work with the Department of Justice, Family Court, and partner agencies in Delaware and other states, handling in-person, phone, email, and court interactions.

This role involves researching and managing cases in the Delaware Automated Child Support System and other government databases,

Qualifications

• Associates degree or higher in Behavioral or Social Science or related field.
• Six months experience in case management to assess and plan services.
• Six months experience interviewing clients and families to obtain facts and explore issues.
• Six months experience applying laws, rules, and procedures.
• Six months experience using an automated information system to enter and retrieve data.
• Six months experience in narrative report writing.
• Knowledge of basic mathematics (addition, subtraction, percentages, decimals).

Responsibilities

• Interview obligees and assess needs to determine actions and update case records.
• Access national, state, and local databases to gather information for processing and enforcement of child support cases.
• Prepare petitions, motions, wage attachments, and other legal documents.
• Respond to inquiries from obligees, obligors, employers, and agencies; document inquiries in the system.
• Refer clients to public/private services as appropriate.
• Maintain records and share information with partner agencies.
• Provide outreach/education through public/private agencies and facilities.
• Recognize crisis situations and apply appropriate procedures.
