Job summary

State of West Virginia is seeking an entry-level Financial Worker to audit Bureau for Child Support Enforcement (BCSE) cases at field offices or the state office. You will analyze financial histories, verify data, and assist in enforcement actions under supervision.

You will review legal documents, apply policy and law, and support caretakers and obligors with accurate financial calculations and data entry. The role is Mercer County-based and on-site.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Paralegal or legal secretarial training program may substitute for two years of required training.
• Full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in a legal setting requiring legal research, reading and interpretation of laws, preparing legal documents, and assisting in case file assessment under attorney supervision.
• Experience in debt collections, credit investigations, criminal investigations, law enforcement, accounting, or auditing.
• Experience as an Economic Service Worker or Family Support Specialist.
• Any combination thereof may substitute for the required training at a rate of one year of experience for every thirty (30) semester hours of training.
• Special Requirement: May be required to have a valid driver’s license and availability of a vehicle for continuous use.

Responsibilities

• Perform entry-level financial duties to audit BCSE cases at field offices or state office.
• Assist BCSE Attorney and Officers of the Court in enforcement and establishment actions.
• Analyze caretaker and obligor cases to verify financial histories and correct balances via databases.
• Verify data in physical case files and automated systems for accuracy and compliance with BCSE policies and laws.
• Review legal documents and court orders; evaluate accuracy on the automated system and perform caretaker accounting.
• Identify and process overpayments to caretakers and refunds to obligors.
• Provide explanations of the case’s financial work upon staff request.
