Job Description

This position is a temporary part‑time role (0.50 PTE for 12 months) with an average commitment of 20 hours per week. Daily four‑hour shifts run Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The incumbent will assist in the operation of a child‑care center and help provide a high‑quality child development program under the direction of an administrator or designee.

Representative Duties

Assist in implementing a program of activities that supports the care, growth, development, and safety of children.
Support Yuba College Early Childhood Education students in laboratory activities as part of their instructional program; provide input on student progress as directed.
Manage small groups of children following an established schedule of developmentally appropriate activities.
Assist with maintaining a quality child‑care program; help plan and develop the program, prepare lesson plans, and compile resources and materials.
Attend staff meetings as required; prepare records and reports as directed.
Record attendance of children; assist in discussions with parents as requested.
Assist with maintaining inventory of instructional supplies.
Perform custodial and maintenance duties to keep a safe, healthy environment.
Oversee center operations independently during absences or emergencies.

Required Qualifications

Completion of sufficient coursework to qualify for a Child Development Associate permit, including at least 12 core units in Early Childhood Education or related courses.
At least one year of experience in a child development program.
Child Development Associate Permit or equivalent.
Valid First Aid and CPR certificates.
California Child Care Provider Health and Safety Certificate (to be obtained within 30 working days of hire).

Benefits

Part‑time positions (<0.60 PTE) are not entitled to district‑paid fringe benefits. However, prorated leave (vacation, sick leave, paid holidays) is available. Employees with <0.50 PTE contribute to an alternative retirement system, while those with 0.50–0.60 PTE contribute to CalPERS.
