Job summary

Qualifications

• Previous experience in food preparation, cooking, or a commercial kitchen preferred.
• Experience preparing food for children is a plus.
• Knowledge of basic food safety and sanitation practices.
• Ability to follow recipes, menus, and written instructions.
• Ability to safely operate standard kitchen equipment.
• Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
• Ability to maintain a clean and organized work environment.
• Dependable, responsible, and attentive to detail.
• Must meet all applicable state licensing requirements for child care food service personnel.

Responsibilities

• Plan and prepare daily meals and snacks according to the center's approved menus and nutritional requirements.
• Accommodate documented food allergies, intolerances, and special dietary needs as directed by center policies and parent/medical documentation.
• Follow established recipes, portion sizes, and meal schedules.
• Follow all federal, state, and local regulations regarding child nutrition, food preparation, sanitation, and food safety.
• Maintain proper food storage, labeling, rotation, and inventory practices.
• Monitor food temperatures and ensure food is prepared, stored, and served safely.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen, including surfaces, appliances, dishes, utensils, and storage areas.
• Wash dishes and kitchen equipment as needed.
• Monitor food and kitchen supply inventory and notify supervisor when supplies need to be ordered.
• Receive and properly store food and supply deliveries.
• Minimize food waste while maintaining appropriate food quality and quantity.
• Use kitchen equipment safely and report any equipment problems or safety concerns promptly.
• Work cooperatively with teachers and center staff to ensure meals and snacks are served on schedule.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding children and families.
• Participate in required staff meetings, training, and professional development.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Center Director or designated supervisor.
