Job summary

Precious Time Child Development Center is seeking a dependable Cook to join our team. You will prepare and serve daily meals and snacks for children following the center's menu, while ensuring nutritious, child-friendly options and on-schedule service.

You'll maintain a clean, organized kitchen, follow safety and sanitation procedures, manage portions for different ages, and work with teachers to accommodate allergies or dietary needs, contributing to a positive mealtime experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Previous cooking, food service, daycare, school, or institutional kitchen experience preferred.
• Experience preparing meals for children is a plus.
• Knowledge of basic food safety and sanitation practices.
• Ability to follow recipes, menus, and established procedures.
• Ability to safely prepare and handle food.
• Strong organization and time-management skills.
• Reliable attendance and dependable transportation.
• Ability to pass required background checks and health screening.
• CPR/First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
• A positive attitude and genuine desire to contribute to a quality childcare environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve daily meals and snacks for children according to the center's menu.
• Follow established meal plans and recipes while meeting required nutritional guidelines.
• Prepare food in appropriate portions for different age groups.
• Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health procedures.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen and food preparation areas.
• Properly store, label, and rotate food and supplies.
• Monitor food inventory and communicate when supplies need to be replenished.
• Follow proper procedures for food allergies, dietary restrictions, and special meal requirements.
• Maintain accurate food preparation and kitchen records as required.
• Work closely with teachers and administration to ensure meals and snacks are served on schedule.
• Follow all Virginia childcare licensing, health, and safety requirements.
• Help create a positive and welcoming mealtime experience for children.
