Job summary

The Ymca Of Reading & Berks County in Mohnton, PA is hiring staff to work with kids in afterschool and program activities. Starting pay is $15-$18 per hour with $3 extra for split shifts. Flexible schedule makes this role suitable for students, parents, or anyone needing mid-day availability.

Across Reading and neighboring areas, opportunities are available in multiple programs. Ideal candidates are education majors, retirees, or anyone who enjoys working with children.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus specified education/experience in child care or human services.
• Ability to meet PA Code Title 55 3270 qualifications for child care supervision roles.
• Ability to communicate positively in English, both written and spoken.
• Lift up to 60 pounds and stand for long periods, with safe classroom practices.

Responsibilities

• Conduct duties following YMCA policies and state child care regulations.
• Attend trainings and adhere to risk management policies.
• Report concerns about children, program, or staff to the Center Director promptly.
• Model effective classroom management and provide appropriate supervision.
• Maintain safety and well-being of children through positive guidance and consequences.
• Assist in program activities, field trips, swimming, and food service as needed.
• Maintain orderly classrooms and communicate with parents and staff.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings; complete required training hours.

Education

High school diploma + 30 credit hours in ECE/child development/education or human services

High school diploma + 600+ hours of secondary training described in 3270.31(c)

High school diploma + 15 credits in ECE/child development/education + 1 year of experience

High school diploma + post-secondary training described in 3270.31(c)

High school diploma + 2 years experience with children
