Job summary

The City of McHenry is seeking a part-time Child Care Attendant for the McHenry Rec Center to supervise and care for children aged 6 months to 8 years, while handling light clerical tasks and assisting with cleaning duties.

Availability is Monday–Friday 8:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. with flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays. Candidates should be reliable, patient, and capable of effective staff and patron communication, with basic first aid certification.

Qualifications

• Applicant must be 16 years of age or older.
• Prior experience babysitting or working with children is required.
• Knowledge of child development is preferred.
• Requires CPR, AED and First Aid certification or willing to complete within 60 days.

Responsibilities

• Supervise up to ten children aged 6 months to 8 years with staff support and ensure safety.
• Provide for children’s safety and enjoyment; never leave children unsupervised.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings; assist with cleaning and sanitizing toys and surfaces.
• Maintain cleanliness of the Children’s Center and assist with routine duties.
• Offer excellent customer service to patrons and communicate with staff and manager.

Job description

The McHenry Rec Center is accepting applications for Child Care Attendants. This position is responsible for babysitting children between 6 months and 8 years, performing clerical tasks, and assisting with cleaning duties. Ideal candidates may also cross-train for Facility Attendant.

We are looking for applicants with the following availability:

• Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. for 3-5 days per week.

• Supervise, with staff support, a maximum of ten children between the ages of 6 months and 8 years, responding appropriately and safely to situations involving behavioral issues, bodily fluids, illness, or other.
• Supervise children at all times providing for their safety as well as their enjoyment. Children must never be left unsupervised.
• Attends relevant staff meetings and trainings.
• Is available for flexible work schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Leaves Children’s Center room clean and in order. Cleans and sanitizes toys, tables, counters and frequently touched areas at the end of each shift.
• Collect and put away equipment and supplies for group activities.
• Check supplies and equipment for wear and tear and advises if supplies or equipment need repair or replacement.
• Monitors locker rooms and common areas for cleanliness, and performs light cleaning as needed.
• Demonstrates a mature and professional attitude through dependability, punctuality and genuine awareness.
• Provides excellent customer service to all patrons. Maintain a professional, diplomatic, and friendly relationship with patrons.
• Promptly greet patrons in a pleasant and friendly manner.
• Follows all safety guidelines while using City of McHenry facilities.
• Administer first aid when absolutely necessary.
• Ensures adherence to safety and injury prevention policies and procedures; prepares accident reports as required.
• Keeps an open line of communication with Recreation Center Manager regarding daily operations, problems, and member feedback.
• Perform the job safely and in compliance with City of McHenry policies, procedures, work and safety rules and the employee manual.
• Performs related duties as required by management to meet the needs of the Parks & Recreation Department and the customer.

• Applicant must be 16 years of age or older.
• Knowledge of child development, education or program instruction is preferred.
• Prior experience babysitting or working with children is required.
• Children’s Center Attendant must be reliable, responsible and relate well with children and co-workers.
• Requires strong people and customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively with the staff and public.
• The successful candidate must project a professional appearance.
• Must have a CPR, AED and First Aid certification or be willing to complete certification training within the first 60 days of employment.
