Responsibilities
- Provides appropriate developmental care and instruction for children and youth ranging in age from 6 weeks to 18 years in Child and Youth Services (CYS) programs.
- Supervises and accounts for the whereabouts and safety of children and youth during daily routines, indoor and outdoor activities, field trips, outings, and special events.
- Assists in implementing planned, developmentally appropriate activities, schedules, and routines using prepared curriculum, activity plans, and materials, including group and individual activities.
- Arranges for or serves appropriate snacks or meals.
- Identifies and responds to emergency situations, including evacuations, child/youth illness, and physical and emotional needs.
Conditions of Employment
- Direct deposit and Social Security Card are required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of appointment.
- A one‑year probationary period may be required.
- Must satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E‑Verify) check.
- Must pass background checks and maintain a favorable adjudication.
- Position requires immunization against communicable diseases, including the influenza vaccine, and passing a pre‑employment physical.
- Must maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications.
- For child development center positions, must have the physical ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs, walk, bend, stoop, and stand on a routine basis.
- Must have adequate visual and auditory capabilities to supervise children and youth and respond promptly when needed.
- Legally required to report all suspected incidents of child abuse or neglect.
- Must complete all Department of War and Service training requirements on time, including orientation, initial, and annual ongoing training.
- May work evenings, weekends, and holidays and both indoors and outdoors, including occasional field trips.
Entry‑Level Qualifications (CY‑01)
- At least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Effective verbal and written communication in English.
