Job description

Responsibilities
  • Provides appropriate developmental care and instruction for children and youth ranging in age from 6 weeks to 18 years in Child and Youth Services (CYS) programs.
  • Supervises and accounts for the whereabouts and safety of children and youth during daily routines, indoor and outdoor activities, field trips, outings, and special events.
  • Assists in implementing planned, developmentally appropriate activities, schedules, and routines using prepared curriculum, activity plans, and materials, including group and individual activities.
  • Arranges for or serves appropriate snacks or meals.
  • Identifies and responds to emergency situations, including evacuations, child/youth illness, and physical and emotional needs.
Conditions of Employment
  • Direct deposit and Social Security Card are required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of appointment.
  • A one‑year probationary period may be required.
  • Must satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E‑Verify) check.
  • Must pass background checks and maintain a favorable adjudication.
  • Position requires immunization against communicable diseases, including the influenza vaccine, and passing a pre‑employment physical.
  • Must maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • For child development center positions, must have the physical ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs, walk, bend, stoop, and stand on a routine basis.
  • Must have adequate visual and auditory capabilities to supervise children and youth and respond promptly when needed.
  • Legally required to report all suspected incidents of child abuse or neglect.
  • Must complete all Department of War and Service training requirements on time, including orientation, initial, and annual ongoing training.
  • May work evenings, weekends, and holidays and both indoors and outdoors, including occasional field trips.
Entry‑Level Qualifications (CY‑01)
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Effective verbal and written communication in English.
