Job summary

United Airlines is seeking a Managing Director – Technical Operations Planning in Chicago, IL, to lead the development and integration of the maintenance plan and strategy for Tech Ops.

You will drive line/base maintenance planning, hangar capacity, and multi-year capacity forecasts while ensuring regulatory compliance and alignment with enterprise goals. The role requires strong leadership and collaboration across multiple functions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• 10+ years in aircraft maintenance planning, engineering, strategy, network or operational planning, or airline/MRO operations in a Part 121 environment.
• 7+ years leading teams across multiple sites.
• Experience with network planning and tradeoffs to executives.
• Strong knowledge of maintenance program requirements, 14 CFR Part 121, MEL management, aircraft routing and network planning, and MRO operations.
• Executive presence and ability to influence across Tech Ops and related functions.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Lead integrated development of maintenance plan and strategy across Technical Operations.
• Oversee line and base maintenance planning, hangar capacity, and scheduling.
• Drive long-term hangar planning and capacity alignment with enterprise goals.
• Partner with NOC, Maintenance Control, Engineering, Supply Chain, Finance and Digital Technology to optimize planning processes.
• Promote standardized planning practices and data-driven decision-making.
