Job summary

National Life Group seeks a Chief Risk Officer to lead enterprise risk management, governance, and independent risk oversight. Reporting to the COO, the CRO will set risk appetite, drive ORSA, and partner across leadership and the Board on risk strategies.

The role coordinates with governance, compliance, and audit functions to strengthen controls and risk-informed decision making. Onsite four days a week with potential schedule adjustments.

Responsibilities

• Own the company’s risk appetite and limit structure — setting, refining, and aligning with strategy and regulatory environment.
• Oversee the annual Own Risk and Solvency Assessment (ORSA), including executive sign-off.
• Serve as the accountable risk advisor to the COO, CEO, ELT, and the Board on risk actions.
• Monitor and interpret key risk indicators, industry trends, emerging risks, and regulatory developments; drive timely responses.
• Act as the company’s risk officer in communications with rating agencies and regulators on risk and solvency topics.
• Provide independent evaluation of governance, risk management, and internal control processes across the enterprise.
• Coordinate with Internal Audit, Compliance, Legal, and Security to align risk oversight and remediation efforts.
• Support investigations of alleged fraud or misconduct, coordinating with Legal, HR, Compliance, and Internal Audit.
• Champion a culture of ethics, transparency, and accountability across the risk function and the broader organization.
