Kirtland Credit Union is seeking a Chief Risk Officer to lead ERM, compliance, and related functions, aligning risk with the credit union’s mission and strategic objectives. You will oversee policy development, risk assessments, and governance reporting, collaborating across departments to strengthen controls and resilience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Risk Management, Law, or related field required.
• Advanced degree (MBA, Juris Doctor, Master’s degree, or equivalent) preferred.
• Professional certifications related to risk management, compliance, auditing, or financial services are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide executive leadership and oversight of ERM, Compliance, Legal, Fraud Prevention, Quality Assurance, Vendor Management, and Account Resolutions functions.
• Develop, implement, and maintain ERM tools, policies, practices, reporting mechanisms, and risk assessments across the organization.
• Identify, evaluate, monitor, and mitigate operational, financial, regulatory, compliance, strategic, and reputational risks.
• Oversee regulatory compliance programs and evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls to ensure compliance with laws and industry standards.
• Serve as primary liaison with regulatory agencies (including NCUA) and external audit firms for examinations and audits.
• Lead the vendor management program and provide risk assessment guidance.
• Direct the Account Resolutions team for compliant, efficient collections and resolutions.
• Participate in governance committees (LCOC, ALCO, CRAC) and present reports to leadership and Board.
• Supervise and develop managers to promote excellence and continuous improvement.
• Support strategic planning and risk-informed decision-making.
