Job summary

National Life Group is seeking a Chief Risk Officer to lead risk management strategy, governance framework, and independent risk oversight across the enterprise. Reporting to the COO, this role sets the risk appetite, ensures ORSA delivery, and advises the Board on material risk exposures.

This position involves guiding risk-informed strategic decisions, partnering with executives across functions, and promoting a culture of governance and accountability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• A minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in financial services—life insurance and annuity strongly preferred— including prior CRO or top-tier risk-executive experience.
• Direct experience interacting with, and reporting to, a Board of Directors and its committees.

Responsibilities

• Own the company’s risk appetite and limit structure and ensure alignment with objectives.
• Deliver ORSA with executive sign-off and serve as risk advisor to COO/CEO and Board.
• Chair the enterprise risk committee and oversee risk reporting to the Board and executives.
• Provide independent risk oversight across governance, controls, and compliance functions.
• Lead talent development and drive a strong risk culture with ethics and accountability.
