Job summary

National Life Group in Addison, TX, seeks a Chief Risk Officer to lead enterprise risk management, governance, and reporting to executives and the Board. The CRO defines risk appetite, oversees ORSA, and partners across functions to integrate risk into strategy, product development, capital management, and investments.

The role requires deep risk expertise, 15+ years in financial services, and strong leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., actuarial science, finance, economics, accounting, or business).
• Minimum 15 years of progressively responsible leadership in financial services; life insurance and annuity preferred.
• Direct experience reporting to a Board and committees (incl. Risk/Audit).
• Strong leadership and change-management ability with a track record.
• Strong risk management foundation and internal-control understanding.
• Excellent knowledge of insurance and annuity economics and finance.
• Onsite hybrid schedule with four core days (Mon–Thu); may change with notice.

Responsibilities

• Own risk appetite and limit structure aligned with strategy and regulatory environment.
• Lead ORSA delivery with executive sign-off.
• Advise COO/CEO and Board on risk actions and mitigations.
• Monitor risk indicators and regulatory developments; guide responses.
• Chair enterprise risk committees and report to leadership and Board.
• Foster governance, ethics, and accountability across the risk function.
