Job summary

Monterey Bay Aquarium is seeking a senior leader to oversee the compliance, data infrastructure, and People & Culture functions, including Employee & Labor Relations, People Analytics, Talent Acquisition, and Volunteer & Intern programs. You will ensure consistent, equitable experiences and ground People Operations in data.

You will lead cross-functional design, manage goals and budgets, advise leadership on employment law, and partner with the VP on DEIA strategy to embed equity in operations

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Minimum 10 years senior leadership experience across multiple P&C disciplines.
• Ability to lead change and manage conflict.
• Technical knowledge of multiple P&C functional areas.
• Strong commitment to developing team members.
• Ability to drive to big picture and connect the dots and complexities of multiple outcomes.
• Keen analytical skills and strategic interpretations.
• Experience managing relationships, negotiation, and facilitation skills.
• Strong organizational, time management, project management skills with emphasis on managing multiple time sensitive tasks within a fast paced high volume organization.
• Collaborative approach to problem resolution.
• Experience working with Board Compensation Committee.
• Experience leading in equitable P&C practices.
• CCP/CBP/SHRM certification.
• Ability to work within and maintain Monterey MBA’s Core and Leadership Values.

Responsibilities

• Set the vision for People Operations work groups and align with MBA long-term strategic objectives.
• Develop long- and short-term strategies to achieve MBA objectives.
• Define annual goals, workplans, and budgets for People Operations.
• Provide leadership to the People Operations team and manage employee relations.
• Oversee employee and labor relations casework and investigations.
• Serve as primary accountability for labor relations and union processes where applicable.
• Advise on employment law compliance and risk mitigation with outside counsel.
• Oversee workforce reporting and HRIS infrastructure with Finance for planning.
• Lead recruitment strategy and equitable hiring practices.
• Set strategy and oversee volunteer and internship programs, including risk management.
• Partner on advancing DEIA strategy and equitable hiring practices.
• Lead design and implementation of new programs and oversee external consultants.
• Support P&C strategies and activities.
