Job summary

The ACLU of Maryland is seeking its next Director of People & Culture, a senior HR leader energized by progressive, people-centered HR aligned with our mission. The role focuses on building an equitable, inclusive workplace, strengthening labor-management relations, and shaping people strategies for a hybrid Maryland workforce.

You will lead talent, compensation, benefits, policy, and HR systems, coach senior leaders, and advance staff voice and development. Experience with bargaining is valued.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive HR experience.
• Experience leading a People & Culture function at a senior level.
• Commitment to advancing equitable, anti-racist, people-centered workplace practices aligned with mission.
• Experience administering a collective bargaining agreement and navigating labor-management relationships.
• Experience in mission-driven settings or related fields is highly relevant.

Responsibilities

• Set values-aligned culture strategy with the Executive Director.
• Coach senior leaders and managers to strengthen supervisory capability.
• Oversee labor-management relations, bargaining, and CBA administration.
• Shape a holistic employee experience across a hybrid workforce from onboarding to development and retention.
• Lead core People & Culture functions: talent, performance, compensation, benefits, policy, compliance, HR systems, planning, succession.
• Recruit and supervise a part-time People & Culture support professional.
