Base pay range

$300,000.00/yr - $350,000.00/yr

TSS is partnering with a prestigious, high-profile law firm to hire a full-time, onsite Chief Operating Officer for a permanent position in NYC, NY.

This newly created role reports directly to the CEO and supports the Managing Director. The Chief Operating Officer will lead a team of 85 staff, directly manage 4, and champion operational excellence.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Oversee daily operations across all departments to ensure efficiency, accountability, and adherence to firm protocols.
• Directly supervise four department heads, maintaining performance standards, deadlines, and firm-wide goals on a weekly, monthly, and annual basis.
• Manage performance and key performance indicators (KPIs) by enforcing compliance through firm software, conducting audits, workflow assessments, and spot checks to evaluate productivity and process adherence.
• Provide feedback and implement process improvements to optimize departmental effectiveness.
• Lead AI integration and technology adoption across departments; research and recommend new productivity tools, supporting staff training and continuing education.
• Foster a professional, collaborative, and high-performing culture while developing and managing long-term plans for staffing, systems, facilities, and the firm’s strategic calendar.
• Oversee Human Resources and Office Management functions to ensure seamless coordination and support.
• Manage office facilities, vendor relationships, maintenance, and landlord communications.
• Supervise IT and telecom systems to ensure optimal performance and coordinate with vendors effectively.
• Oversee risk management, including insurance coverage, internal controls, and data security protocols.
• Maintain compliance by managing corporate filings, licenses, insurance policies, and tax documentation in accordance with regulatory requirements.
• Track and manage vendor invoices, outside expert/legal costs, and referral fees from partner firms to maintain financial accuracy and accountability.

QUALIFICATIONS

• 10+ years in a senior operations or leadership role; law firm experience preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, Finance, or a related field (required). MBA preferred.
• Strong leadership and people management skills.
• Demonstrated success managing large cross-functional teams and complex projects.
• Demonstrated success in enforcing KPIs.
• Decisive and confident, with a bias for action and executive-level decision-making.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Analytical and data-driven, able to interpret performance metrics and take strategic action.
• Tech-savvy with a solid understanding of operational systems and digital tools
• Hands-on, adaptable, and proactive in implementing new systems and approaches.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The salary range is $300,000 - $350,000/yr DOE. Health benefits include: Medical, Vision, and Dental, PTO, paid sick leave, paid holidays, 401k with match, commuter benefits, and more!
