Job summary

Encompass Health seeks a Chief Nursing Officer to lead nursing excellence across its 150+ inpatient rehabilitation hospitals in the U.S. This executive role focuses on compassionate care, patient outcomes, and high standards of nursing practice within a nationwide network.

You will collaborate with clinical disciplines, advance care programs, and ensure compliance with Joint Commission and CMS standards while shaping a mentorship-driven, diverse, and results-oriented culture.

Qualifications

• RN licensure and BLS certification are required.
• CRRN certification should be obtained within a year of eligibility.
• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is required; an advanced nursing degree is preferred.
• At least five years of inpatient hospital experience and two years in nursing management are required.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee nursing care quality across the hospital network.
• Collaborate with medical, clinical, and therapeutic teams to foster patient-focused care.
• Develop patient care programs, policies, and procedures for nursing care delivery.
• Represent nursing on committees such as Governing Body, Quality Council, and Infection Control.
• Ensure diversity and an inclusive work environment; mentor and motivate staff.
• Implement Joint Commission, CMS, and state standards; monitor NHPPD staffing and budget alignment.

Qualifications

• Possess a current RN licensure as required by state regulations.
• Hold BLS certification (ACLS preferred).
• Commit to obtaining CRRN certification within a year of meeting the eligibility requirements.
• Possess a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or a related field, unless a higher degree is mandated by state regulations.
• Advanced Degree, plan to receive an advanced degree, or knowledge and skills associated with an advanced degree required unless otherwise specified by state regulation.
• Five years of experience in an inpatient hospital setting.
• Two years of recent (within the last 5 years) Nursing Management experience, with responsibilities including 24-hour accountability, FTE management, policy, procedure, and budgetary oversight, as well as conducting disciplinary action.
• May be required to work weekdays and/or weekends, evenings and/or night shifts.
• May be required to work on religious and/or legal holidays on scheduled days/shifts.
