Job summary

Encompass Health Corporation is seeking a Chief Nursing Officer to lead nursing care across our 150+ inpatient rehabilitation hospitals. You will drive patient-focused care, implement standards, and guide nurse leaders to achieve outstanding outcomes.

The role requires RN licensure, a BSN or higher, and significant inpatient leadership experience, with emphasis on budgeting, policy development, and cross-disciplinary collaboration. Join us to shape care quality and staff excellence.

Qualifications

• RN licensure in good standing as required by state regulations.
• BSN or higher degree; ACLS certification preferred.
• Commitment to obtaining CRRN certification within 12 months of eligibility.
• Bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field (or higher as state rules require).
• Advanced degree or equivalent knowledge relevant to role; required unless state regulation says otherwise.
• Five years of inpatient hospital experience.
• Two years in Nursing Management with budgetary oversight and policy responsibility.
• May require weekday/weekend/evening/night shifts or holidays.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with medical, clinical, and therapeutic teams to foster a patient-focused, team-oriented culture.
• Develop patient care programs, policies, and procedures to meet nursing needs.
• Represent nursing on committees such as Governing Body, Quality Council, and Ethics.
• Support a diverse, inclusive, respectful work environment.
• Drive the hospital mission, measure performance, and hold staff accountable.
• Implement Joint Commission, CMS, state standards for rehabilitation care.
• Utilize staffing matrices to balance patient acuity with NHPPD and budget targets.
• Celebrate staff and patient successes throughout the organization.

• Advanced Degree, plan to receive an advanced degree, or knowledge and skills associated with an advanced degree required unless otherwise specified by state regulation.
• Fiveyearsofexperienceinaninpatienthospital setting.
• Two years of recent (within the last 5 years) Nursing Management experience, with responsibilitiesincluding24-houraccountability,FTEmanagement,policy,procedure,and budgetary oversight, as well as conducting disciplinary action.
• Mayberequiredtoworkweekdaysand/orweekends,eveningsand/ornight shifts.
• Mayberequiredtoworkonreligiousand/orlegalholidaysonscheduled days/shifts.
