About the Role

Our client, a major operator in the Mining sector, is actively seeking a highly experienced and results-oriented Chief Mine Maintenance Superintendent to lead their maintenance division in East London, Eastern Cape. This critical leadership role involves overseeing the maintenance and repair of all mining equipment, ensuring maximum uptime, operational efficiency, and adherence to stringent safety standards. You will be responsible for managing a large team of maintenance personnel, developing strategic maintenance plans, and optimizing resource allocation. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in heavy equipment maintenance within the mining industry, strong leadership capabilities, and a deep understanding of preventive and predictive maintenance strategies. Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the entire mine maintenance department, including mechanical, electrical, and mobile equipment maintenance teams.
• Develop and implement comprehensive preventive and predictive maintenance programs to minimize equipment downtime and extend asset life.
• Oversee the planning, scheduling, and execution of all maintenance activities, including major overhauls and repairs.
• Ensure the safe and efficient operation of the maintenance workshops and personnel.
• Manage maintenance budgets, control costs, and optimize spare parts inventory.
• Implement best practices in maintenance management, leveraging technology and data analytics.
• Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations related to maintenance operations.
• Collaborate with operations, engineering, and procurement departments to align maintenance strategies with production goals.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in maintenance management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role within the Mining industry.
• Proven experience managing large maintenance teams and complex maintenance programs for heavy mining equipment (e.g., excavators, haul trucks, crushers).
• In-depth knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance techniques and technologies.
• Strong understanding of mine operations and the impact of maintenance on productivity.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong financial acumen and experience in budget management and cost control.
• Proficiency in maintenance management software (CMMS/EAM systems) is essential.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and make sound decisions.
• Experience in the East London, Eastern Cape region or similar operational environments is a plus.
