Job summary

Lindblad Expeditions is seeking a Chief Mate to lead the deck crew and support piloting, navigation, safety, and security on our expedition fleet. The role requires coordinating dock operations, training crews, and ensuring strict adherence to Coast Guard requirements across diverse voyages.

You will oversee watches, supervise the deck team, and participate in guest interactions as directed by the Captain. A strong maritime background with passenger vessel experience is essential.

Qualifications

• Experience operating port-to-port in Southeast Alaska, the Snake and Columbia Rivers, Gulf of California and beyond.
• Mate experience on passenger-carrying vessels with supervisory responsibility.
• Excellent crisis management skills and quick, sound judgment.
• Voyage planning and navigational calculations required.
• Strong time management and customer service abilities.
• Proficiency with MS Windows applications and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Assumes command of the ship if the Captain is incapacitated.
• Acts as Security Officer, Safety Officer, and Medical Officer.
• Inspects vessel cleanliness and readiness for USCG inspections.
• Prepares vessel for USCG dry docks and inspections.
• Directs deck during docking and handling of lines and moorings.
• Maintains deck inventories and organizes maintenance programs.
