Job summary

Lindblad Expeditions seeks a Second Mate for one of our U.S.-flagged vessels operating in global waters. This role centers on navigation, bridge watch, and safety-critical duties, with responsibilities including voyage planning, chart corrections, and crew training on an approximately 6 weeks on/6 weeks off schedule.

Daily 12-hour watches, Zodiacs, and safety drill participation are core parts of the job. Requires a USCG Mate license, STCW endorsements, and a strong guest-service mindset.

Qualifications

  • Experience as Mate operating a passenger vessel with navigation and bridge watch duties.
  • Experience port-to-port along Southeast Alaska, the Columbia/Snake Rivers, Gulf of California, and Panama Canal.
  • Proven crisis management skills with sound judgment under pressure.
  • Strong customer service with professional demeanor and tact.
  • Excellent time management and ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Clear, effective communication and voyage planning abilities.
  • Able to perform navigational calculations and related math.

Responsibilities

  • Perform bridge navigation and deck watch duties; determine position via GPS, radar, visuals, and depth sounders.
  • Maintain nav/radio logs and assist in docking, anchoring, piloting, and maneuvering.
  • Drive small boats and assist with guest/staff transfers as needed.
  • Maintain navigation bridge inventories, charts, and Notices to Mariners.
  • Prepare Voyage Plan waypoints and training documentation for crew.
