Responsibilities

Position: Chief Engineer


Reports To: General Manager of Home2 Wilson


Collaborates With: Assistant General Manager, Executive Housekeeper, Front Office Team, and other department leaders


POSITION PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES:

The Chief Engineer leads the engineering and maintenance function at Home2 Wilson and plays a critical role in maintaining a safe, functional, and well-maintained property for guests and team members. This position is responsible for the overall maintenance, repair, preventative maintenance, and physical condition of the hotel, including guestrooms, public areas, building systems, equipment, and exterior areas.


The Chief Engineer partners closely with the General Manager, Assistant General Manager, Executive Housekeeper, and other hotel leaders to achieve the operational, financial, guest-service, safety, and property-maintenance goals of the hotel.


The ideal candidate is a hands‑on leader with hotel or commercial maintenance experience, strong troubleshooting and organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to proactively identify and resolve maintenance concerns while building positive relationships with team members, guests, vendors, and contractors.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Previous maintenance experience is required; hotel or commercial property maintenance experience is strongly preferred.

  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience is preferred.

  • Working knowledge of general plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, painting, appliances, and mechanical systems.

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills with the ability to identify maintenance concerns and determine appropriate solutions.

  • Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.

  • Ability to effectively lead, train, coach, and motivate team members.

  • Excellent verbal and non‑verbal communication skills.

  • Guest‑service‑oriented demeanor with a professional, positive attitude and a willingness to go above and beyond for guests.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively to urgent maintenance needs in a fast-paced hotel environment.

  • Ability to monitor maintenance expenses, inventory, supplies, vendor costs, and other departmental expenses.

  • Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, ladders, and other maintenance equipment.

  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn hotel, company, and preventative maintenance systems.

  • Applicable HVAC, pool, electrical, or other maintenance certifications are preferred.


PRINCIPLE JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Lead daily engineering and maintenance operations to ensure guestrooms, public areas, equipment, building systems, and exterior areas consistently meet BryantCorp, Home2, and Hilton standards.

  • Routinely inspect guestrooms, public areas, mechanical spaces, equipment, and exterior areas for maintenance, safety, appearance, and operational needs.

  • Manage and complete the hotel's preventative maintenance program, ensuring required inspections, maintenance tasks, and documentation are completed accurately and timely.

  • Diagnose and complete repairs involving plumbing, electrical, HVAC, appliances, fixtures, doors, locks, lighting, carpentry, painting, and other hotel systems and equipment within the scope of the position.

  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests, guest concerns, work orders, and emergency maintenance situations and ensure appropriate follow‑up.

  • Prioritize maintenance needs to minimize guest disruption, prevent additional damage, and protect hotel assets.

  • Monitor the operation and condition of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, life‑safety, and other building systems and equipment.

  • Maintain pool equipment, complete required testing and documentation, and ensure compliance with applicable standards and regulations, when applicable.

  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels of maintenance supplies, tools, equipment, replacement parts, and materials while monitoring departmental expenses.

  • Coordinate and oversee outside vendors and contractors when repairs or projects require specialized services.

  • Obtain quotes and provide recommendations to hotel leadership for significant repairs, equipment replacement, preventative maintenance needs, and property improvement projects.

  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, preventative maintenance documentation, inspection logs, warranties, equipment information, work orders, and vendor records.

  • Partner with Housekeeping and Front Office teams regarding room status, guest requests, out‑of‑order rooms, maintenance concerns, and overall property needs.

  • Maintain departmental safety practices and ensure compliance with company policies, internal audit standards, applicable OSHA requirements, fire and life‑safety requirements, and other applicable regulations.

  • Proactively identify potential safety hazards, equipment failures, and property concerns and take appropriate corrective action.

  • Recruit, train, coach, schedule, and develop engineering or maintenance team members, when applicable, while promoting a positive and collaborative work environment.

  • Clearly communicate performance expectations and provide ongoing feedback, recognition, and accountability to supervised team members.

  • Assist with departmental forecasts, budgets, capital planning, renovation projects, action plans, and other operational reports as needed.

  • Demonstrate hands‑on leadership and perform maintenance duties directly as necessary to support hotel operations.

  • Participate in emergency response procedures and provide on‑call support for urgent property or maintenance needs as required.

  • Assist the General Manager and hotel leadership team with additional duties and projects as requested.
