Job summary

Community Transit seeks a General Counsel to serve as the agency's chief legal advisor and a key member of the executive leadership team. Reporting to the CEO, the GC will oversee all legal affairs and provide strategic counsel on governance, contracts, labor and procurement for a large public agency.

This high-visibility role influences governance decisions, regulatory compliance, risk management, and major capital projects while supporting operations that enhance transportation for Snohomish

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school; eligibility for admission in Washington State.

Responsibilities

• Serve as principal legal advisor to the Board of Directors, CEO, and executive leadership team.
• Provide strategic counsel on governance, regulatory compliance, contracts, labor and employment, procurement, public records, risk management, litigation, real estate, environmental issues, and other operational matters.
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, interlocal agreements, and other legal documents.
• Oversee outside counsel, litigation strategy, claims, disputes, and legal budgets.
• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments affecting public agencies.
• Provide legal guidance in support of major capital projects and long-term planning.
