Job summary

City of New York seeks an Inspector General for the Office of the Inspector General for the NYPD (OIG-NYPD) to oversee systemic oversight of NYPD operations. You will manage investigations, coordinate with federal, state and local agencies, and guide staff across investigators, attorneys, analysts, and outreach personnel.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree and substantial supervisory experience, with the Commissioner’s approval.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; four years of full‑time investigation, auditing, law enforcement, security, management analysis, or a major operational area; 18 months in supervisory/administrative capacity preferred.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may be approved with supervisory/administrative experience.
• Candidates must have approval of the Commissioner of Investigation and relevant supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead systemic investigations and reviews of the NYPD's operations, policies, practices and programs.
• Draft and edit investigative reports with actionable recommendations for the NYPD.
• Represent the Commissioner and DOI before NYPD, law enforcement and City agencies and the public.
• Supervise OIG-NYPD staff including investigators, attorneys, analysts, and outreach personnel.
• Participate in recruitment and onboarding of OIG-NYPD staff with a focus on training in policing accountability.
• Stay informed on current policing issues to identify concern areas for further review.
• Perform confidential assignments related to systemic and non-systemic investigations.
