Job description

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, including award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years), is determined by the VA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be tentatively referred and selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may be appointed only when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, per VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved medical school.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S., its territories, or the District of Columbia.
  • Residency Training: Completed residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification. Residency programs include those approved by ACGME, AOA, or other recognized programs deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee.
  • Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA residencies are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Physical requirements include periods of long standing, occasional lifting of moderately heavy objects, long sitting periods, and the ability to work accurately in potentially stressful situations.
Duties
  • Lead and manage major specialty programs at a multi-division facility, such as Topeka/Leavenworth and 9 CBOCs.
  • Assume professional, technical, and administrative responsibilities for assigned programs, including staffing, work assignments, budget, and treatment services.
  • Manage data related to program functioning and evaluation.
  • Coordinate staffing, work assignments, budget, and treatment services.
  • Responsible for the overall clinical and administrative functions of ED/Acute Specialty Medicine/Clinical Specialty Lab.
  • Work schedule: 0730-1600.
