Fahrenheit Advisors has been retained to assist our client, Commonwealth Electrical Technologies (CET) in their search for a Chief Financial Officerto join their team. This role will be based out of Worcester, MA .The ideal candidate will work on-site with flexibility.

Position Summary: Commonwealth Electrical Technologies is seeking a dynamic, hands-on Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead the company’s financial operations, drive strategic growth, and enhance financial performance. Reporting to the CEO, this role requires an operationally focused finance leader with strong experience in project-based industries, particularly construction or related fields. The CFO will oversee all financial functions, ensuring rigorous financial controls, accurate reporting, and data-driven decision-making to support the company’s objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead all financial planning and analysis, including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and long-term financial strategy.
  • Oversee financial reporting, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and internal requirements.
  • Drive profitability through proactive cost control, revenue optimization, and strategic financial planning.
  • Work closely with project managers to develop project budgets, forecasts, and financial performance metrics.
  • Implement and manage a comprehensive job costing and WIP (Work in Progress) tracking system to monitor project financials effectively.
  • Lead the monthly close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Develop and maintain strong banking and external financial relationships to optimize financing and investment strategies.
  • Implement financial controls and risk management strategies to safeguard company assets.
  • Serve as a strategic partner to the CEO and executive leadership team, providing insights and recommendations for business growth and operational efficiency.
  • Oversee ERP and financial systems to enhance operational efficiency and financial transparency.
  • Ensure compliance with tax, audit, and industry regulations, working closely with external auditors and advisors.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Direct and develop the finance team, providing leadership, mentorship, and professional growth opportunities.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, sales, and project management teams to drive company-wide financial literacy and accountability.

Strategic Responsibilities:

  • Lead financial due diligence for M&A activities, including valuation analysis, risk assessment, and integration planning
  • Develop and execute financial strategies to support acquisitions, divestitures, and capital-raising initiatives.
  • Serve as the primary financial liaison with private equity partners, ensuring alignment on financial performance, investment strategies, and value creation.
  • Work closely with the executive team to identify, evaluate, and execute strategic growth opportunities, including potential mergers and partnerships.
  • Present financial reports, strategic plans, and investment recommendations to the board of directors, ensuring transparency and alignment with business goals.
  • Oversee post-merger integration efforts, ensuring financial and operational synergies are realized effectively.
  • Manage capital structure and optimize funding strategies in collaboration with investors, lenders, and financial institutions.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years of progressive financial leadership experience, preferably in a project-based industry such as construction, engineering, or contracting.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related discipline; CPA, CFA, or MBA preferred.
  • Experience working in a private equity-backed company, with a strong focus on scaling operations, driving growth, and executing value-creation strategies in a fast-paced environment, preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in project accounting, job costing, and ERP systems.
  • Hands-on approach with the ability to dive into financial details while maintaining a strategic mindset.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
  • Proven ability to drive financial and operational improvements through data-driven decision-making.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong proficiency in consolidating financial information.
  • Prior M&A and integration experience preferred.
