Job summary
We are seeking a dynamic, values-driven Chief Financial Officer to join the Board of UHMB, a forward-thinking NHS provider dedicated to delivering outstanding care to our communities. This is a rare opportunity to shape the future at a time of significant transformation across the NHS.
It's an exciting time to join our team, as we re-imagine services with a focus on the shift from treatment to prevention, hospital to community care, and analogue to digital solutions, with an emphasis on sustainability. A new clinical service blueprint across Lancashire and South Cumbria has been developed, and we now need to make it a reality. We are working with place partners to implement innovative neighbourhood programmes to address health inequalities and are currently implementing a new operating model across the Trust.
There is significant investment and development across our geography, including the Eden Project North coming to Morecambe and the Government's committed investment in the nation's submarine building programme. Barrow Rising unites industry, education, health, transport, housing, and community regeneration to unlock potential and create a once-in-a-generation opportunity for change.
We need you to be a team player, willing to challenge traditional thinking, provide inspirational leadership, and be committed to our journey of change and transformation.
The Chief Financial Officer will play an active role in shaping and implementing clinical, corporate, and improvement strategies to achieve clinical transformation and financial sustainability across the Bay and the Lancashire and South Cumbria integrated care system.
The Chief Financial Officer is a full voting member of the Board of Directors and is expected to play a significant role in the organisation's corporate affairs as an Executive Director and member of the Unitary Board.
Responsibilities include overseeing the safety and quality of patient care, workforce leadership, strategic direction of the Trust, performance and financial sustainability, and external partnerships.
The first stage of the selection process will take place on Friday, 20 June 2025, as an in-person event at Westmorland General Hospital.
We operate from three main hospitals: Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, along with community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and RLI offer a range of services, including Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units, and various specialist services.
WGH provides general hospital services and an Urgent Treatment Centre for non-life-threatening conditions such as minor injuries and illnesses.
All three hospitals provide outpatient, diagnostic, therapeutic, day-case, and inpatient services, along with community outreach programs across Morecambe Bay.
