Job description

MatchaCFO is a strategic finance and accounting firm that serves growing tech companies that need sophisticated financial leadership without building a large in-house finance organization.

We operate as an extension of our clients’ leadership teams, combining CFO-level strategic finance with hands-on accounting, forecasting, cash management, financial operations, and decision support. Our work is practical, analytical, and deeply embedded in our clients’ businesses.

We are hiring a Chief Financial Officer to serve as a senior financial leader across a portfolio of Matcha clients while helping strengthen the firm’s finance practice, team, and operating standards.

The Role

This is not a traditional corporate CFO position.

The CFO will operate as a fractional CFO and strategic finance partner to multiple client companies, owning senior-level client relationships and helping founders and management teams make better financial and operating decisions.

The role requires someone who can move comfortably between strategy and execution. On any given day, you might advise a founder on cash runway, review a forecast with a management team, identify an accounting or reporting issue, help structure a financing decision, improve a client’s financial processes, or coach members of the Matcha team.

You will be expected to understand the numbers at a detailed level while maintaining the judgment and perspective of a senior executive.

What You’ll Do

Serve as CFO to Matcha clients

  • Act as a trusted financial partner to founders, CEOs, boards, and management teams.
  • Own senior-level relationships across a portfolio of client companies.
  • Translate financial information into clear recommendations and business decisions.
  • Help clients evaluate growth investments, hiring, pricing, capital allocation, financing, and other strategic decisions.
  • Participate in leadership, board, investor, and other strategic financial discussions as appropriate.
Lead strategic finance
  • Build and maintain financial models, forecasts, budgets, and scenario analyses.
  • Lead cash-flow forecasting, liquidity planning, and runway management.
  • Develop KPIs and management reporting that give leadership teams a clear view of business performance.
  • Analyze revenue, margins, operating expenses, headcount, unit economics, and other business drivers.
  • Identify financial risks and opportunities before they become obvious in historical reporting.
  • Help clients establish financial plans that connect strategy with measurable operating objectives.
Oversee accounting and financial operations
  • Maintain strong oversight of client accounting and financial reporting.
  • Review financial statements for accuracy, completeness, and business relevance.
  • Partner with accounting teams to ensure appropriate close processes, controls, reconciliations, and reporting.
  • Identify weaknesses in financial processes and implement practical improvements.
  • Coordinate with tax, audit, banking, insurance, payroll, legal, and other external partners when necessary.
  • Ensure clients have reliable financial infrastructure as they grow.
Lead through ambiguity
  • Diagnose financial and operational problems that do not arrive with neatly defined solutions.
  • Step into complex situations, establish priorities, and drive issues to resolution.
  • Balance technical accounting, financial analysis, business judgment, and client needs.
  • Develop a deep understanding of each client’s business rather than relying on standardized CFO playbooks.
  • Build institutional knowledge and create processes that make both Matcha and its clients less dependent on individual people.
Develop the Matcha team and practice
  • Mentor and develop finance and accounting professionals across the firm.
  • Establish high standards for analysis, communication, financial reporting, and client service.
  • Improve Matcha’s CFO methodologies, models, processes, templates, and operating systems.
  • Collaborate closely with Matcha’s leadership team on client delivery, staffing, capacity, and firm strategy.
  • Help build a finance organization characterized by accountability, sound judgment, intellectual rigor, and trust.
What We’re Looking For

We are looking for an experienced financial leader who combines CFO-level judgment with a willingness to stay close to the work.

The strongest candidates will have:

  • Significant experience as a CFO, VP of Finance, Head of Finance, or senior finance leader.
  • Experience advising founders, CEOs, and executive teams.
  • Strong financial modeling, forecasting, budgeting, and cash-management capabilities.
  • Deep understanding of financial statements and accounting fundamentals.
  • Experience overseeing accounting teams and financial close/reporting processes.
  • Strong business judgment and the ability to connect financial analysis to operating decisions.
  • Experience working with growth-stage, entrepreneurial, or privately held companies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple companies, priorities, and stakeholders simultaneously.
  • A track record of earning the trust of executives, employees, boards, investors, and external partners.

Experience in fractional CFO services, professional services, consulting, startups, SaaS, technology, or other high-growth businesses is valuable but not required.

What Success Looks Like

A successful Matcha CFO becomes someone clients call before they make an important decision—not simply someone who explains the financial results afterward.

You will develop a detailed understanding of your clients’ businesses, build trusted relationships with their leadership teams, and create financial systems that make those companies easier to understand and manage.

Internally, you will make Matcha stronger by developing our people, improving our processes, transferring institutional knowledge, and raising the standard of our CFO work.

Why MatchaCFO

Matcha offers an unusual CFO opportunity: the ability to work deeply with multiple businesses, founders, and management teams while being part of a finance organization rather than operating as a standalone CFO.

The work is varied, intellectually demanding, and highly consequential to our clients. We value clear thinking, ownership, practical problem solving, strong relationships, and financial leadership that improves the underlying business—not just its reporting.

If you are a senior finance leader who enjoys getting inside businesses, solving difficult problems, and becoming a trusted partner to entrepreneurs and executives, we would like to hear from you.
