Summary
The Chief Field Engineer reports directly to the onsite Superintendent and manages all Field Engineers, Instrument Men, and Rodmen. This company representative is directly responsible for the development, installation, and accuracy of Certified Project Control and all ensuing building layout derived therefrom, including stacked control on any high-rise structure. The Chief Field Engineer is accountable to the Superintendent for timely and accurate layout of all activities necessary to ensure schedule commitments are being met. The individual is directly responsible for managing their time and scheduling their crew in accordance with the needs and direction of the Superintendent. The Chief Field Engineer shall also be completely responsible for the accuracy of all benchmarks and control lines provided for others. Field notes and other related documentation are critical to the success of any project and must be kept in a secure place.
Most work occurs on construction sites. Due to daily condition changes on construction projects, when employees are outside of the office trailer or structure they must wear appropriate personal protective equipment as required by the company's safety policies and as required for weather conditions.
Sitting 30 - 50% of time on job. Critical abilities: standing and walking 50 - 70% of time on job; climbing (stairs and ladders) average 10 times a day; stooping, kneeling, bending 20% of time on the job; repeated use of hands (typing, using hand tools, writing) 20% of time on the job; communicate (talking) 75% time on the job; hearing (phones, radios, alarms, general construction activity) 100% of time on the job; 20/20 vision (natural or with glasses or corrective lenses) and ability to detect small objects; able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (safety glasses, harnesses, hard hats, etc.) every day in required areas on the job; working at heights and in confined spaces 20% of time on the job; working in heat, cold, rain, snow, and ice = 20% of time on the job. Helpful abilities: able to lift 40 pounds or more; push and pull objects weighing 50 pounds or more; able to identify and distinguish between colors.
