Job description

About the Practice

Located in the heart of Central Illinois, Midwest Orthopaedic Center is a premier, physician-owned orthopedic surgery and sports medicine group. For decades, we have been the region's trusted leader in comprehensive musculoskeletal care.

Our robust, independent practice consists of 19 specialized providers: 13 orthopedic surgeons, 4 non-operative sports medicine specialists, 1 orthopedic foot and ankle fellowship-trained specialist, and 1 podiatrist. We offer extensive subspecialty coverage, including hip and knee reconstruction, pediatric orthopedic surgery, spine surgery, orthopedic sports medicine, shoulder & elbow surgery, hand and upper extremity, foot and ankle surgery, fracture care, and pain management.

We are highly integrated into the regional healthcare infrastructure, providing coverage across four local hospitals within the area's two major health systems. We maintain complete operational control over our state-of-the-art ancillary services. We wholly own and operate our primary clinic facility, a comprehensive physical therapy department, advanced radiology suites (including an in-house MRI suite), and a dedicated orthopedic walk-in clinic.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a dynamic, strategic, and experienced Chief Executive Officer to lead our practice into its next chapter of growth and clinical excellence. This transition marks a historic milestone for our group, as our current CEO is retiring after a highly successful 20-year tenure that has left the practice financially strong, culturally cohesive, and operationally optimized.

The incoming CEO will inherit a stable, high-performing organization and will be tasked with navigating the evolving private practice landscape, maximizing the profitability of our ancillary service lines, and fostering strong strategic partnerships within the Peoria medical community.

About the Community

Situated beautifully along the Illinois River, Peoria is a vibrant metropolitan area of approximately 360,000 residents, located just three hours southwest of Chicago. The region offers an exceptional quality of life, featuring a highly affordable cost of living, top-rated public and private schools, excellent dining, and abundant outdoor recreational opportunities. It is an ideal community for professionals and families alike, offering the amenities of a major medical hub without the congestion of a larger city.

Compensation & Benefits

We offer a highly competitive executive compensation package commensurate with experience, including a robust base salary, performance-based incentives, comprehensive health/dental/vision insurance, retirement planning with group matching, and generous paid time off. Relocation assistance is available for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership: Partner with the physician board to develop and execute long-term strategic plans that ensure the practice's continued independence, market dominance, and financial health.

Operational Excellence: Oversee the daily operations of all clinical and ancillary departments, including the walk-in clinic, physical therapy, and imaging/MRI suites, ensuring maximum efficiency, compliance, and exceptional patient experiences.

Financial Management: Direct all financial operations, including revenue cycle management, budgeting, forecasting, contract negotiations with payers, and capital expenditure planning for a multi-million-dollar enterprise.

Hospital Relations: Serve as the primary liaison and strategic negotiator with the two major regional hospital systems, managing coverage agreements, co-management structures, and collaborative initiatives across our four covered facilities.

Provider Relations & Recruitment: Support the retention, recruitment, and onboarding of top-tier orthopedic surgeons and advanced practice providers to accommodate community demand and succession planning.

Team Development: Lead, mentor, and evaluate the executive management team and administrative staff, maintaining a positive, high-retention workplace culture.

Qualifications & Experience

Education: Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration (MHA), Business Administration (MBA), or a closely related field.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of senior executive leadership experience within a large, high-volume physician practice. Experience specifically in an orthopedic or multi-specialty surgical group is highly preferred.

Ancillary Expertise: Proven track record of successfully managing and optimizing profitable ancillary service lines, particularly physical therapy and advanced imaging (MRI).

Skills: Exceptional financial acumen, strong communication and consensus-building skills among physician partners, and a deep understanding of value-based care, regulatory compliance, and payer contracting.
