Job description

About the Practice

The practice is a physician-owned, four-location dermatology and aesthetics practice serving the greater Atlanta area. The practice provides comprehensive medical dermatology, Mohs surgery, and a full-service aesthetics division, and continues to expand its clinical service lines and footprint. The practice is independently owned, with no private equity involvement.

Position Summary

The Chief Operating Officer serves as the senior-most administrative executive in the organization, reporting directly to the physician Owners. The COO holds full accountability for the operational and financial performance of all four clinics and the aesthetics division, leads the practice's management team, and partners with the Owners on strategic planning, growth initiatives, and major business decisions.

This position carries unusually broad authority for a practice of this size. The COO directs financial operations in partnership with the Controller, owns all vendor and contract relationships, oversees human resources, information technology, and facilities, and represents the practice with external partners including landlords, suppliers, and service providers. The successful candidate will be a versatile executive comfortable operating across every business function of the organization.

Key Responsibilities
Executive & Strategic Leadership
  • Partner with the physician Owners on strategic planning, growth initiatives, service line expansion, and major capital and business decisions

  • Translate ownership objectives - practice growth and a seamless patient experience - into operational plans, priorities, and accountability across the organization

  • Serve as the final point of resolution for cross-departmental priorities, escalations, and resource decisions

Financial Leadership
  • Hold full P&L accountability for all clinics and the aesthetics division

  • Direct budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and monthly financial review in partnership with the Controller

  • Monitor revenue cycle performance and implement strategies for improvement in collaboration with the Billing Manager

  • Oversee payroll, compensation structure, and performance-based incentive programs

Operations & Team Leadership
  • Lead a management team spanning HR, finance, billing, call center, Mohs, aesthetics, and site management across four locations

  • Chair the weekly management team meeting and maintain standing one-on-one meetings with all direct reports

  • Maintain a regular on-site presence at all locations to ensure consistent standards, staffing, and patient experience

  • Coordinate provider schedules across sites to maximize patient access to care

People & Culture
  • Direct hiring, performance review cycles, and personnel decisions in partnership with HR

  • Manage the PEO relationship, including annual benefits selection and renewal

  • Develop managers into stronger leaders through coaching, clear expectations, and accountability

  • Build and maintain staffing pipelines for clinical and administrative roles - proactive recruiting, candidate pools for high-turnover positions, and succession planning for key roles - so that vacancies are filled from a bench, not from a standing start

Vendors, Technology & Facilities
  • Own vendor selection, contract review and negotiation, and renewal management across IT, marketing, telecommunications, software, and clinical supply

  • Oversee IT infrastructure, the practice management/EMR platform, and the managed IT services relationship

  • Manage facilities and lease matters, including negotiations, amendments, and tenant improvement projects

  • Oversee inventory and procurement systems across all sites

Compliance & Clinical Operations Support
  • Coordinate with the Compliance Officer to maintain regulatory readiness across all locations

  • Build the operational infrastructure for new clinical service lines as the practice expands

What Success Looks Like in the First 12 Months
  • The management team operates with clear expectations, consistent cadence, and defined decision-making authority

  • Financial reporting and monthly reviews run on a disciplined, predictable rhythm

  • Provider schedules stay full and patient access metrics improve across all four locations

  • Vendor contracts and renewals are actively managed with no unplanned auto-renewals or lapses

  • The Owners spend their time on clinical care and strategic direction, not daily operations

Qualifications
  • 7+ years of progressive operations leadership in multi-site healthcare, with direct P&L accountability

  • Masters degree preferred

  • Demonstrated success leading managers across multiple locations and functions

  • Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis; advanced Excel proficiency

  • Experience negotiating and executing vendor contracts, leases, and service agreements

  • Working fluency across HR, IT, compliance, and facilities functions

  • EMR/practice management platform experience required; ModMed (EMA) experience preferred

  • Dermatology, aesthetics, or specialty physician practice experience strongly preferred
