Job description

Our client is a leading Construction Management and General Contracting firm specializing in ground-up and renovation projects across various sectors including commercial, healthcare, retail, educational, and corporate. With a commitment to excellence and innovation, we deliver high-quality projects ranging from $1M upwards of $100M. As we continue to grow, we are seeking a highly experienced Chief Estimator to join our team and lead our estimating department.

Position Overview :

The Chief Estimator will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the estimating process for projects within our portfolio. This includes but is not limited to, developing accurate and competitive bids, managing a team of estimators, fostering relationships with subcontractors and suppliers, and ensuring adherence to project budgets and timelines. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in construction estimating within the New Jersey or New York market, with a strong focus on all trades and project types.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Lead the estimating department in the preparation of comprehensive and competitive bid proposals for ground-up and renovation projects.
  • Collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to gather necessary information for accurate cost estimations.
  • Develop and maintain a robust subcontractor and supplier database, ensuring competitive pricing and quality workmanship.
  • Analyze project specifications, drawings, and other documents to identify potential risks, opportunities, and value-engineering solutions.
  • Manage and mentor a team of estimators, providing guidance, training, and support to enhance their skills and performance.
  • Conduct regular reviews of estimating processes and procedures to optimize efficiency and accuracy.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and negotiations with clients, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Monitor market trends, labor rates, and material costs to stay informed of industry changes and their potential impact on project budgets.
  • Collaborate with senior management to develop strategic initiatives and goals for the estimating department.
  • Uphold company standards for ethical conduct, professionalism, and quality in all interactions and deliverables.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in construction estimating, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record of successfully bidding and winning projects within the New Jersey or New York market.
  • Extensive knowledge of all trades and construction methods for commercial, healthcare, retail, educational, and corporate projects.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to accurately interpret project documents and specifications.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in construction estimating software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Thorough understanding of construction contracts, legal requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., Certified Professional Estimator) are a plus.
